History of the Ateliers d'Art Français

Heir to the company founded in France in 1836, the Ateliers d'Art Français has been preserving the ornamental tradition since the middle of the XIXth Century.

Ateliers d'Art Français    A subsidiary of Umicore since 1982, the Ateliers d'Art Français was integrated into the Building Products Unit on January 1st 2000. We wanted to preserve the know how while giving the business the industrial efficiency and quality of service for which the Umicore Group is already recognised by roofing professionals through its VM ZINC® products.

Like VM ZINC®, the Ateliers d'Art Français is a Umicore France brand.

Unique know-how

Armed with 160 years of experience, the Ateliers d'Art Français continues the tradition of the European architectural heritage and participates in its conservation.

Its know-how is expressed through different commitments and services.
In order for us to maintain a high standard of quality, our ornaments are shaped, assembled and soldered by hand. The quality of our work serves as a standard on the market, for both our standard products and our identical reproductions.
The work of our ornamental metal workers, true artists, covers the entire palette of zinc and copper working: forming, stamping, spinning, soldering, etc.

Since there are no training courses, we train our own young ornamental metal workers who will continue the tradition.
So that our reproductions are as faithful as possible, we first design the ornaments on computer before entrusting their entire production to an ornamental metal worker.

The Ateliers d'Art Français design office advises architects and owners on their choice of standard ornaments, the style of a work or on the reproduction of old ornaments.
We offer technical assistance to roofers for the installation of ornaments.

 Prestigious monument
In 2004, the Ateliers d'Art Français is recreating the ornamentation of the Grand Palais, built for the World Exhibition of 1900 in Paris. 27 metre dome is finished by a finial and a 2 metre diameter ball and the campanile by different ornaments.
 Prestigious monument
The prestigious "La Régence" hotel in Bruxelles was built too late to benefit from the "Roaring Twenties". In 2000, the entire building is demolished and rebuilt except for the street frontages which were preserved and restored to their original appearance. The dormer and bull's eye windows were formed according to tradition by master craftsmen of Ateliers d'Art Français
